Frequently Asked Questions

What is PocketList?

PocketList is a rental listings website powered by renters themselves. Renters share what they know about the place they're planning on leaving, and in exchange, unlock everyone else's ratings and feedback.

Why are you asking about my current place?

No one knows better than you what your place is like, and when you leave, the next person that lives there would love to know what they're getting into. Haven't you ever wondered if the place you're looking at is really well managed, or is loud at night, or has a street parking problem in the neighborhood? Those are exactly the kinds of insights that we're collecting so that we can share them openly with our community.

Does that mean I'm putting my apartment up for rent?

No. When you rate your place on PocketList, you are not putting it up for rent. You're simply sharing what you know about your unit, building, and neighborhood. In fact, no one can see the address of your place until after you've found a new place and have given notice to your old landlord.

I don't know if I want to give notice yet. Is my landlord going to get upset or think I'm moving out?

We screen out landlords and property managers on our platform, so there aren't many on PocketList. Also, you can't search for an exact address, so most landlords wouldn't be able to find one of their units if they tried.

Why do you ask for photos?

When you look at places on other apartment sites, a lot of pictures are misleading. That's because landlords and property managers are trying to sell you something. We believe that the truest peek at what a place is really like will come from an old tenant, furniture and all.

What do I do if I see a place I like?

You can save a place to your Favorites List. When the current tenant gives 30 days' notice, we'll email you and offer to introduce you directly to the landlord. You're not obligated to say "yes," and you are in control of your information. But if you decide the place and time are right, you can often be a month ahead of the rest of the market on finding your dream place.

Where is PocketList available?

PocketList currently operates in the Los Angeles Metro Area. This does not include Orange, Riverside, Ventura, or San Bernardino Counties.

We will be rolling PocketList out to other counties and completely new Metro Areas very soon. can save a place to your Favorites List.
